Ask the Expert - Working Principle of Turbine Flow Meter

These flow meters are precisely designed to measure the flow rate of liquid and gasses in pipelines. They measure the flow on basis of volume. Outputs given by these meters are exceptionally reliable and accurate digital signals. It produces an outcome in the form of electronic, visual and digital alerts. Turbine flow meters maintain the mechanical integrity in abrasive and corrosive fluids generally found in oil fields, chemical and water flood pipelines, mining operations, plants and offshore facilities.IMG_1221
Let’s get into the working principle of axial turbine meters.
Axial turbine meters transform mechanical action of rotors into electrical pulses. The rotor is rotating in the liquid flow encompassing an axis. The turbine rotor is set at a right angle in the path of the fluid. When fluid strike blades of the rotor it produces rotational motion of the turbine wheel. When this turbine rotor spins at stable and steady speed it becomes proportional to fluid velocity. The number of pulses is proportional to the volume of the liquid. The rotor spins and gives output in the form of electrical signals which can be easily noted in GPM and RPM units.
Advantages of Turbine Flow Meters-
  1. It is widely used for low flow rate liquids.
  2. Highly accurate and reliable for measuring viscosity and range in liquid.
  3. Easy to install and use.
  4. It measures flow rate in non-conductive liquids
  5. It is competent for wide range of liquid and gasses
Disadvantages of Axial flow sensors are as follows-
  1. The fluid which is used should be clean and degradation-free.
  2. It should be installed with precaution in order to avoid errors.
  3. It is essential to avoid cavitations in the pipe that is formed due to the small vapor voids formed on the surface of the liquid.
  4. It requires regular check and maintenance to get accurate results.
Compelling all the above information we can say that Turbine flow meters are very crucial in many industries like oil, water, and gas. You can know more about industrial applications of this flow meter in our previous blog- Ask the Expert:  8 Industrial Applications of Turbine flow sensor. As the name suggests today’s Ask the Expert blog is about Application and Working Principle of Diesel Flow Sensor. These types of flow sensors are used in the technologies which we use regularly, especially in our Automobiles and think what!!! We don’t even have a glimpse of this extreme technology around us.
Let’s explore more about it…
What is Diesel Flow Sensor?
diesel
Diesel Flow Sensor is a precision device used to measure the consumption of fuel in different types of machines and automobiles. These devices are widely used to measure the fuel consumption in vehicles. Diesel Fuel Flow Meter is one kind of positive displacement meter used to measure the instantaneous flow or liquid flow of the pipe tube.
Working Principle
It is an accumulated meter which requires fuel to displace the components mechanically in the meter for measuring the flow rate. It consists of two elliptical gears meshed together and fluid forces this gears to rotate. Each rotation is correspondent to a fixed volume of liquid and counted precisely. A total of this rotation determines the flow rate of the fluid and rate is directly proportional to the flow of the fluid. This device characterized by high speed, accuracy, and preciseness. It measures even small changes in the viscosity of corrosive liquid and diesel.
Application of Diesel Flow Sensor-
Diesel Fuel Flow Meter is used to monitor fuel consumption in the automotive, marine, power generation industries and aerospace, among others. For instance, mining companies use diesel flow meters to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the diesel generators. Here, it measures the diesel consumption in different operations of the power plant.

Ask the Expert- Exceptional Applications of Water Flow Sensor

Today, we are here with Ask the Expert- Exceptional Applications of Water Flow Sensor for our readers.
roca-sink-drain
Let’s have a deep glance at it.
A water flow meter is a measurement device installed in pipelines through which water flows. The meter repeatedly monitors the flowing water in the pipe in order to measure the volume of the water flow.
Public service providers use these devices to manage the water consumption with more effectiveness by installing them water meters in their pipelines. These water flow meters help them to measure the quantity of water supplied and charge their customers according to the water consumption.
The most effective Water Flow Sensors consist of a plastic helical rotor with the pulse output, injection molding machine, Owen mold, and tools. This type of water sensors measures the speed and volume of water passing through the pipe. The speed of a rotor changes with a different rate of flow when the water flows through this rotor. The corresponding pulse signals emerge in the form of outputs.
Water sensors are available in various diameters, flow rate (l/m), and water pressure (Mpa) spans. It should be kept in mind that water sensor you select is appropriate for your requirements.
Eventually, it provides a real-time and ongoing overview of the water activities in your storage properties. Water meters are making it easy to track the water usage and consumption in order to give clear and fair view of consumption bills to the customers. Some of its higher applications include reporting about emergencies like leaks, floods, or unaccepted water usage to make sure that every concerned person is informed regularly.
Apart from the above there are many other applications of Water Flow Sensor listed as below-
  •  It helps to determine the existence of a leak (if the sensors continue to measure the water flow even when water is turned off it means there’s a leak somewhere).
  • To measure the capacity and depth of the water in well.
  • To measure the water usage and charge money according to their usage.
  • It helps to allocate water in different activities like irrigation, commercial use, sewage, landscaping, etc.
Hence, there are many applications of water flow sensors that are used in various industrial applications. For more information about Flow sensors and flow meters you can visit broiltech.com.

Ask the Experts- Thermal Mass Flow Meters its Working Principle

In the same fashion of our Ask the Expert blogs, today we are here to describe Thermal Mass Flow Meters and its Working Principle, to our ingenious readers.
Let’s start with thermal fluids and its meaning-
The term ‘Thermal Fluid’ refers to heat and fluid, while fluid consists of liquid, gas, and vapors.  Density, pressure, and volume play a crucial role in the thermal fluid. Heat transfer is the major activity that occurs while thermal fluid flows in different mediums.
vortex-3
Generally, there are three types of flow meters with various industrial applications. Thermal mass flow meters are also known as thermal dispersion or immersible mass flow meters. It consists of a range of devices for the measurement of the total mass rate of a fluid. Another type of thermal dispersion is the capillary –tube flow meter. Further, Mass Flow Controllers (MFC) is the third type of immersible mass flow meter. It represents the 2% of global flow meters sales.
How does Thermal Mass Flow Meter Works
It requires thermal properties of the fluid to measure the flow rate of the fluid. In conventional flow meters, heat is passed to the heater of the sensor. During this process, some of this heat approaches the flowing fluid in the pipe or duct. Heat is lost according to the increasing flow. Here, thermal flow meters are used to measure fluid flows.
Thermal properties of the fluid and flow meter design, decides the amount of total heat loss during the process. The thermal properties of the fluid may change according to the temperature and pressure, but these changes are comparatively small in most of its applications. Fluids with constant thermal properties remain stable during the actual operations and thermal mass flow meters can be used to measure the mass flow of the fluid. Although, thermal properties of the fluid don’t have significant effects on the measurement process, but somehow, it depends on the fluid compositions.
Hence, this was how thermal mass flow meters works and thermal properties of the fluid holds an important place in the process of flow measurement.

Ask the Expert- Working Principle and Applications of Ultrasonic Flow Meter

According to the conventional method we use for our Ask the Expert series of blogs, we are here again with a new informative blog on Working Principle and Applications of Ultrasonic Flow Meter.
So, let’s discuss this topic in detail-
1083_9
Ultrasonic Flow meter is a device used to measure the velocity of the fluid with the help of ultrasound transducers to compute volume flow of the fluid. This flow meter measures average velocity of the fluid with the use of sound waves.
Working Principle of Ultrasonic Flow Meters-
The hero of this story is Doppler’s effect that is basically a frequency shift of ultrasonic signals when it is imitated by deferred particles of fluid in motions. The metering method of this flow meter uses the Physical phenomenon of sound waves to measure an average flow rate of the fluid.
Ultrasonic flow meters sends and receives ultrasonic waves between transducers in the both upstream and downstream directions within the pipe. Generally it takes more time while upstream flow conditions and less time during downstream flow conditions. The upstream and downstream times is processed by the transmitter to define the flow rate.
These flow meters are used in diversified industries along with its wide range of applications.
fmt
Applications of Ultrasonic Flow Meter-
  •  To measure the velocity of the liquids that permits ultrasonic waves to pass through it. Such liquids consist of water, molten sulfur, cryogenic liquids, and chemicals.
  •  To measure gas and vapor flow.
  •  Used for wastewater flow metering
  •  Building services
  •  Power and energy management
  •  Chemical and pharmaceutical industry
  •  Food and hygienic flow-metering
  •  Steel industry
  •  Petro-chemical
  •  Pump inspection
Although there are many different types of Ultrasonic flow meters that are used in different industries according to its applications. Generally, specifications are different between the various manufacturers but the principle of its working is almost similar in every flow meter of this type. Installation of this flow meter depends on the requirement of the industry. For more information contact us at www.broiltech.com.
